BIG BUCK CONTEST
RULES 2011


1.        Eligible hunters must be signed in and have $15 cash entry fee paid by midnight Friday, November 4th 2011.

2.        Deer must be a whitetail or Mule Deer buck killed during the general hunting season.

3.        Eligible bucks must be killed in one of the following South Dakota counties: Ziebach, or Dewey.

4.        Bucks killed within a deer-proof fence or any other confined areas are not eligible to enter contest.

5.        Bucks must be properly tagged according to State or Tribal Law when brought in for measurement. Hunter
must present valid hunting license and contest entry form to the official measurer.

6.        Measurement must be made within 24 hours of kill and no later than midnight on Sunday November 27th

7.        Measurement:  For measurement, the hunter must bring in the ENTIRE BODY of the field dressed animal to a
judge within 24 hours of the kill:  Judges names and numbers will be revealed with numbers on this page soon.

8.        Official measurements will be accompanied with a picture of Hunter & Buck together and will be published
with score on Facebook and SoDakAdventure.com so there is no questions on the size.

** NEW SCORING SYSTEM **
1.         The total number of points.
    No points will be counted that are less that 1" in length, no rounding allowed.
2.         The width of the outside spread.
    All measurements must be done from the main beam only.
3.         A total of the two longest times off the main beam per side will be measured and scored.
    A total of four tines will be measured, two per side.
4.         TOTAL SCORE:
    The total numeric score will be the sum of 1, 2, and 3 above. That is, the sum of the total points, the outside                            
     width, and the four longest tines (two per side) equals the total score for the buck.
5.         Tiebreakers will be determined by the longest tine.
    In the case of a tie still remaining, the next longest tine of the four measured, and so forth, until a winner has                           
      been determined.
9.        POINT SYSTEM:
Winners are decided by the total score according to the contest's point system:


a.         No points will be counted that are less than one (1") inch from its base.
b.         All measurements are rounded off to the nearest 1/8 inch.
c.         Broken points measuring less than the minimum length will not count.
d.         If the main beam is broken, measurement will not include the detached portion of the antler.
e.         If the main beams are moveable, measurement will be made at the narrowest point when the antlers are held in.
f.         Once measured, a buck cannot be measured by another measurer unless authorized by the contest committee.
g.         In the case of a tie, winners will be chosen by a drawing between the hunters whose scores are tied.

10.       No Bucks with less than 3 total points (including main beam) on one side will be counted for Big Buck or
Small Buck Prizes.  Let's let them grow up a little and not shoot a bunch of spikes!!!!!!!!!!
11.       Hunters attempting to cheat in the Area Big Buck Contest or violating Game Laws are disqualified and     
barred from entering this contest for a period of time to be determined by the contest committee.
12.        No more than one prize will be awarded to any registered hunter. A hunter can only enter one buck.
13.        Judges may enter but cannot measure their own deer
14.        All decisions of the contest committee are final.
