New Season New Contest to Benefit the DHS Rodeo Club

The New Year’s Contest was such a hit last year to benefit Aaron Terveen, we thought we would keep the tradition alive. Over the next few days we will be getting information out about a huge event over the Holiday Season that will benefit the DHS Rodeo Club. The dates are set for December 28th & 29th. Along with the Video Varmint Calling Contest or 2012 Dupree Dog Days, there will also be a Silent Auction both nights as well as a Branding Crew Slave Auction on Saturday. Get your help lined up early this year and plan to attend. The Contest Link will be updated to the right of your screen shortly and information will also be available on FACEBOOK. Terveen Benefit Hunt blows in the Hunters!!

Well New Year’s Eve will never be the same. Many people have been reading about the Terveen Benefit Hunt that was being planned for New Year’s Eve, and let me tell you, the people of the Dupree Community as well as the Weather, blew me away. It all started on Friday night the 30th with a $5 supper and the beginning of the Silent Auction, people kept coming, and they all had stuff for the Silent Auction. I would guess over 200 people in all showed up the first night.

The hunters checked in and there were 15 teams with 3 hunters on each team. This was a video hunt and the plan was for the hunters to hunt all day Saturday and bring in their videos for people to view on Saturday Night, then we would award the hunters as well as the winners of the Silent Auction items.

Big Dog, 2nd Place Little Dog, 1st Place Overall

1st Place: Cody Eaton, Austin & Amanda Stambach, they were overall winners, had the Big Dog at just over 38 pounds, the 2nd Place Little Dog at just over 21 pounds. They took home $600 for their efforts.

Rocky Longbrake, Tony & Terry Russell 2nd Place

2nd Place: Rocky Longbrake, Tony & Terry Russell, 2nd Place overall, 2nd Big Dog just over 31 pounds Total winnings $320

Courtney Good, Murdock Halligan and Mike Fillaus

3rd Place: Courtney Good, Murdock Halligan and Mike Fillaus took 3rd place overall and $180

Jayde Starr, Shane Farlee and Cody Rahder

Little Dog: Jayde Starr, Shane Farlee & Cody Rahder won Little Dog with a coyote weighing 15 pounds $100

Clay Farlee stated that over $9500 was brought in by the silent auction and the two nights of suppers. The Coyote Hunt brought in $750 for the cause, many of the hunters gave all or some of their winnings back for a total of $1050. Putting the total proceeds by this event over $10,500. An amazing amount for a community this small.

New Years Hunt – Terveen Benefit Coyote Hunt!

Aaron Terveen was injured in a car accident last month and his Wife Mandi (Farlee) Terveen, and two sons need our help. For more info on the accident (Click Here).

Aaron is an avid coyote hunter and since he has local ties we thought what better way to help his family than with a coyote hunt. We are going to have our 2nd Video hunt of the year on December 31st. If possible we would like to collect all the videos on a computer so I can make a hunt video for him to watch while he goes through his rehab. Many of the details are still being ironed out as this is short notice.

If you can help in anyway please let us know on the event page we set up on facebook.

If you are not a hunter and would like to help out we will take silent auction items as well as prizes for the hunters.
The events will kick off on Friday December 30th @ 5:30 with a $5 meal provided by the Farlee Family, followed by a rules meeting at 7:00. The Hunters will hunt all day on Saturday and videos will be aired and another free will meal will be served starting @ 5:30 on Saturday Night.

Entry fees for the contest will be $130 per team, teams may have up to 3 people.

Benefit Video Hunt a Success

We got one!!

We had a lot of great videos brought in for the contest and every team came in with at least one dog. Jake Harris & CJ Menzel won the contest with 4 dogs on video. Oren Lesmeister’s team had 5 coyotes in all and 2 on video for 2nd place. Russell Brehmer’s team had 3 coyotes total and 2 kills on film, the also won small dog. Jim Selby’s team had 1 coyote for Big Dog, did not get him on film. Our team had 2 kills and 1 near miss on film. These video hunts are alot of fun, takes the idea of cheating out, and everyone gets to watch the success and failures unfold again at check in. People are posting their pictures and videos on our Facebook page

Benefit Coyote Contest – Rules and Regulations

Dupree Dog Days Official Rules and Regulations
� Teams will consist of teams up to 3 people and they must hunt together at all times
� All State hunting regulations must be obeyed on Private, State or Federal Land
� All Tribal hunting regulations must be obeyed on Tribal Land
� All team must have permission to hunt from land operators
� Any game violations will result in immediate disqualification
� A licensed adult above the age of 18 must accompany any hunter under the age of 18
� All animals must be harvested on the day of contest during legal shooting hours � hour before sunrise and � hour after sunset
� Giving, Exchanging, and-or Accepting animals from hunters not on the 3 man team will result in immediate forfeiture of entry fees
� No Trapped, Snared, Frozen Coyotes will be accepted
� No Live Decoys
� Any coyotes killed with a Shot-Gun will be disqualified
� NO SNOWMOBILES, NO ATVs or AIRCRAFT of any kind
� Running down animals with any motorized vehicle is prohibited
� Each team will be given 7 Mouth Tags; all animals must be tagged as soon as they are taken, & the time of the kill must be written on the tag.
� Number of Points will determine winner of Overall contest,
� Point system: 1 point per animal called and killed, 2.5 points per animal called and killed on videotape
� In case of ties on points the team with most video kills wins, if still tied we will go to total weight
� Weight will determine BIG DOG � LITTLE DOG winners, in case of a tie the dog on video will win, if still tied we will go to time of check in. Team that checked in earliest will break tie.
� Weigh in time is 7:00 Mountain Time, Saturday Night; any team that checks in Animals after this time will be disqualified.
� Judges will be on hand to handle weigh in; Judges will enforce all rules and regulations;
� All teams must be equipped with a picture phone, video camera, or digital camera.
� ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note: These rules are to promote fair chase hunting, if it�s caught on tape there is no fair chase in question, if it is not caught on tape you will still earn points for your kill. There will be extra points awarded for videotaped coyotes.

Benefit Coyote Hunt & Big Buck Contest, November 11th & 12th

Coyotes for Kas,
This summer our Good Friend and Hunting Partner, Courtney Good was hit with a tragedy, his 15 year old daughter Kas was in an awful accident that caused a traumatic brain injury. She has been hospitalized since the accident.
Courtney is a huge supporter of Dupree Dog Days, and has been to every hunt since it started. We all know how hospital bills pile up along with the time off of work and all the other little things. Courtney and his family had insurance but there are many things that insurance doesn�t cover. We are planning a couple of fundraisers in the spirit of Dupree Dog Days to help him and his family with these expenses.
On November 11-12 of 2011 we plan to have a video coyote hunt. The details of this hunt are yet to be released however if you have attended Dupree Dog Days in the past the rules will be similar with minor tweaks here and there.
We all know that this is the opening weekend for West River Deer season and the 2nd Weekend for the Tribal Deer seasons; therefore we are going to try and incorporate a Big Buck contest. This contest will need to be pre-entered so check back on SoDakAdventure.com or the SoDakAdventure facebook page for details in the next few days.

A New Dawn!!

Boy it has been a long time since I posted anything, I may just ramble for a few paragraphs then sign out. Last Hunting season was not the best for me, seems like the older my kids get them more my life works in their schedule instead of mine. Chief’s Father always said do as much as you can when you are young because every year it gets harder to go, and sure enough he was right. I just didn’t expect it to start so early. Got the Email notification yesterday that my West River Tags were successful, this after the 3 Elk Tags were unsuccessful, and my Black Hills Deer tag was unsuccessful. So at least we have something going for us, hopefully and Antelope Tag will show up soon. Then I can apply for some left over Whitetail tags and a Muzzleloader tag, I should be able to fill the Freezer with Fajita meat for the winter. Coyote hunting has been my passion for quite some time, but the last couple of winters the snow has been so deep that it’s been hard to get out into the good country to where the Coyotes are. That and every Tom, Dick and Harry with a Sled was running them all over the country. Don’t get me wrong as a Rancher I need to coyote populations thinned out but I would like to be able to get within a days ride of one every once in awhile with a motorized vehicle. Every year Chief and I say we are going to do some filming in September when the Pups are out, but it never happens. I’m hoping this year we get the chance because no telling what the winter will bring. Perhaps the cattle market will hold and I can put some Tracks on my ATV, this would help extend my calling season when the snow gets deep. I’ve got a ton of plans and ideas for the upcoming season, I just hope that they can come to a reality. I’m not having any organized activities, when I try to organize something it turns into work. When I have a free weekend and my friends have a free weekend we will hit it. If it’s just me, then it’s just me. One good thing about being self employed, you don’t have to wait for the weekend, and that is how I’m going to approach the upcoming season.

OK enough rambling, I haven’t been on the NPHA site since March and I’m itching for some coyote killing news so off the blog I go.

Don’t forget, we are going to have the 2011 Fox Ridge Friends of the NRA event on September 30th, in Faith. It will not be to late of an evening so everyone will be able to get up and hunt Antelope the next morning. Come out and support a good cause and perhaps win a gun or some gear for the upcoming hunts.

Dupree Dog Days Results!

It was a great day for hunting, temps in the low 30s 15mph wind out of the North. Most teams talked about seeing coyotes and just not being able to get them to commit. Our team saw 14 coyotes and only got 2 in rifle range, so we know what the others were experiencing. Seems like they were in love and to busy playing with each other to worry about us hunters. However the Video Format seemed to be a success and we gave some cash to a good cause. The food was great both nights and every hunter walked away with a prize of some kind. When I recieve some pictures I will post them as well. Here are the results:

Dupree Dog Days Practice w/Les than Johnson

They say you can't call coyotes in the wind this is #2 of the day

Went out to practice our coyote calling for Dupree Dog Days, We had to call in pretty close cover because of the wind, got a couple seen 4, the experts are right you can’t call coyotes in the wind, if you don’t try. Chief shot them both, one across the ice on the Cheyenne, nobody wanted to retrieve him as we were not sure about the Ice. Chief was the lightest but he wouldn’t do it. The 2nd one busted us after we snuck into his bedding area turned the call on, he started running, and Cheif made an awsome shot, didn’t even have time to get the camera out. However we did get a video of Chief making his best Les Johnson immitation. View the Video here: Les than a Johnson
